Barratts Chapel Road

Project Limits:

The project will improve Barratts Chapel Road from the intersection with McGinnis Pond Road to the intersection with SR 1 (approximately 2.75 miles).

Project Need:

DelDOT identified the need to improve Barratts Chapel Road in 2005 due to the impending development within the project limits. The public has also voiced concern over the condition of Barratts Chapel Road with the proposed development. There are five subdivisions proposed within the project limits.

Project Overview:

Barratts Chapel Road will be improved to provide 2 - 12' travel lanes and 2 - 8' shoulders. Right and left turn lanes will be added at the McGinnis Pond Road intersection and at the entrance to the Otter Run subdivision. A roundabout is proposed at the Buffalo Road intersection. A grade separated intersection is proposed at the intersection SR 1 and Barratts Chapel Road.

Current Project Schedule:

Four Roadway Alternatives and two Grade Separated Intersection Alternatives were developed and presented to the public at a workshop on August 27, 2008. Based on input from the public, natural and cultural resource agencies, and emergency response units, a Preferred Alternative will be selected and presented to the public at a workshop scheduled for November 19, 2008. The environmental investigation and documentation process is currently ongoing. Design will begin in fall 2008.

Current Construction Schedule:

Based on current funding, construction could begin as early as Spring 2012.
